Steve Bell is Chairman and CEO of the Western Region at Northern Trust. In this position he is responsible for managing the company’s investment management, trust and estate planning, private and business banking and financial consulting business in California, Nevada and Washington.

Previously, Steve served as the head of the Wealth Management Group, a specialized unit of The Northern Trust Company which addresses the complex financial requirements of U.S. and international families who maintain single family offices. During his 27 year career at Northern Trust, he also built and ran the private banking business for Northern Trust Bank of California (1991-1997), served as a commercial real estate lender (1989-1990), worked with Chicago middle market owner/operators (1983-1988), and served as a supervisor in the Financial Analysis Division (1982-1983).

Steve received his A.B. degree with honors in economics from Duke University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. He received his M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago, with a concentration in Finance. He joined Northern Trust Company in 1982.

Steve has served as an officer and board member with various charitable, civic and educational organizations in Chicago and San Francisco. Currently Steve serves on the boards of SF Jazz and Team Up for Youth. He and his wife Susan reside in Menlo Park. Susan is the Vice President for The William & Flora Hewlett Foundation.

Betty Mower Potalivo is Regional President of Orange County, California, Northern Trust. She oversees all aspects of business activities in Orange County and the Coachella Valley. Responsibilities include investment management, fiduciary trust, commercial and private banking, investment and holistic financial advisory. She is responsible for strategic growth, marketing, and a professional staff delivering high touch service to individuals and families of wealth, the businesses they own, their charitable foundations, and community foundations and endowments.

Ms. Potalivo's career in the financial services industry began in 1974 working to pay college expenses at USC as a teller at Bank of America. Upon graduation she participated in Bank of America’s management training program. She joined Bank of America’s Corporate Banking Team. After 10 years with Bank of America, she was recruited by Bank of the West in 1984 where she started a de novo commercial lending business in San Diego. The last 5 years of her 10 years with Bank of the West she was Regional Vice President overseeing retail and commercial banking for Southern California. Ms. Potalivo was recruited by Wells Fargo Bank in 1994 to be their Regional Manager of Private Banking, Trust and Investments covering Orange County. In 1997 Ms. Potalivo was recruited by City National Bank to start a de novo private banking business in Orange County.

Ms. Potalivo is a Trustee, member of the Executive Committee and Chair of the Finance Committee KOCE Public Television. She is a director of A Better LA, working to reduce gang violence in south central Los Angeles. She is a Director of the Girl Scout Council of Orange County. She is a founding member of the Orange County United Way’s “Women in Philanthropy Fund.” She is the founder of the Orange County Literacy Society which promotes literacy programs for at risk youth. She is past chairman of the Ocean Institute.

Ms. Potalivo is the recipient of the 2004 “Woman of Distinction Award” from the Girl Scout Council of Orange County. In 2004 she was also one of two honorees by the Soroptimists of Newport Harbor for her contributions to the community. Also in 2004, she was awarded the “Women in Business Award” by the Orange County Business Journal. In 2009 she was honored by the Merage Foundation at their High Hopes Luncheon for her work on behalf of children. In 2010 Ms. Potalivo received the “Mother of the Year Award” from Casa Teresa as an example of a woman who has successfully balanced career and family.

Ms. Potalivo has a B.S. degree in business and finance from the University of Southern California.
